I own many different liquid foundations, and most of them perform pretty well. But there is only one that has achieved holy grail status for me. It is the one foundation that I reach for when I want my 47-year-old combination skin to look positively radiant and know for sure that my foundation is going to wear well all day. It is also the only foundation that gets me compliments on my skin (not on my foundation, on my skin). It is none other than the iconic Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.

According to the product description, this foundation offers "micro-fil technology, producing a low-density product that pairs high-impact pigments with weightless texture. Inspired by the silk shantung worn by kings and emperors, this foundation glides seamlessly onto the skin leaving a finish that's reminiscent of charmeuse silk." I love the way that sounds, and I can happily attest to the fact that the foundation provides a beautiful and silky light-to-medium coverage that feels weightless on the skin.
I have been using Luminous Silk for about a year now, after I was color-matched at Sephora (I wear Shade 5 out of its range of 24 shades) and given a free sample to try. I started to fall in love as I first applied the foundation because it was so easy to brush on the skin and blend without it drying too fast. I was even more in love with the look of the foundation on the skin (it is radiant but not greasy looking or slippery) and its wearability.
But let's get a little more specific. Why do I love Luminous Silk so much? Let me count the ways...
- As mentioned above, it has a beautiful, silky appearance on the skin. Although its name ("luminous" silk) suggests it may have an overly radiant or sparkly appearance, the radiance is subtle, in a glow-from-within way. It is not at all a greasy or oily foundation, and it doesn't make my oily areas oilier, nor does it cling to drier spots on my skin or settle into fine lines. It just gives a beautiful, natural finish to the skin.
- It applies and blends like a dream. This foundation is what I would describe as on the thin side but not runny, and it applies smoothly no matter what application method I use - foundation brush (this is my preferred method), beauty blender, or fingers. It doesn't dry too fast and you don't have to work too hard to blend it. My typical method is to apply the Luminous Silk with a foundation brush (like the Morphe Y7 brush) over primer, then lightly powder over my T-zone with a translucent powder.
- It plays well with a variety of other products. Luminous Silk wears well when combined with my various primers (I've even used it with radiant primers, and this didn't produce too much radiance), concealers, and setting/finishing powders.
- Its staying power is awesome. I wear it for 8+ hours and it still looks good and resists caking, even in problem areas such as around the nose and in the smile lines.
The only downside of this wonderful foundation is the price. It is $64 for 1 ounce of product and comes in a smaller .6 ounce mini size that sells for $42. But it is something that I will always repurchase. It's that good.

Luminous Silk is one of my favorites. Your makeup brush is pretty also. I like Power Fabric in the summer when it's humid in my area.
ReplyDeleteHi Traci! That's an elf foundation brush in the picture. I love it - it works well with the foundation. I really want to try the Power Fabric foundation. I've heard good things about it.
