The Sunshine Blogger Award

Starting a blog is exciting, and I've enjoyed every minute I've put into it. But it does bring with it some worries. Are my posts resonating with anyone? Am I providing the type of content that people in my niche want to see? Is this something that readers will have an appetite for in the long-term?
And so on.

That's why I was so happy to find out that I've been nominated for The Sunshine Blogger Award! Thanks to Marie at backstorybeauty for nominating me. If you haven't checked out her blog yet, I highly recommend doing so. It's a "curated space for lovers of luxury, bespoke, niche, green, and vintage beauty" and her posts are great reads.

Seems simple enough! Without further delay, let me answer the questions posed to me by backstorybeauty. Here goes...

Was there a moment, day, or year that you decided to start a blog and why?
Yes. I decided to start my blog in September 2017, shortly after my home flooded due to Hurricane Harvey here in Houston, TX. I was sitting in my temporary apartment, bored and watching YouTube beauty videos and I suddenly thought that discussing beauty would be a fun thing to do. However, as a writer, doing it via a blog seemed more "me" than starting a YouTube channel.

Briefly describe the hardest blogging lesson you've had to learn since you started you blog.
I've learned that getting followers and readers is insanely difficult (but very rewarding!).

What is the "why" that drives you and your blog? In other words, what space are you attempting to fill, what value are you seeking to offer, or who are you seeking to reach?
My blog is a beauty blog for women over 40 focusing on quick, simple, and affordable makeup and skincare. When I was creating my blog concept, I noticed that there were few beauty blogs written from an over 40 perspective, so I wanted to help fill that space. I wanted women my age to be able to read about makeup and skincare written by someone who really seemed to enjoy being over 40. My mission has always been to make women over 40 look and feel simply beautiful.

If you could start a charitable organization, what cause would it be in support of?
I would like to help fund research efforts on cancer, since so many of my immediate and extended family members and friends (including myself) have had this terrible disease.

If you were a finalist on a show such as American Idol or Britain's Got Talent, what song would you chose?
I have no idea. Really.

Have you ever slept outside in a tent, and if not, would you?
Nope! And I can't imagine wanting to do so.

If you had to choose the type of place to live for the rest of your life, would you choose the countryside or the city?
City.

Coffee or tea?
Coffee.

Lipstick or lip gloss?
Lip gloss.

Have you ever read a book that definitely changed your way of thinking and in turn changed your life?
No, but the Book of Job from the Old Testament changed my way of thinking (for the better).

If you had to choose between being an animal that lives on land or being an animal that lives in the ocean, which would you choose?
Ocean. I think it would be less noisy.
