Ready for a mini drugstore haul? I was at my local drugstore this past week and couldn't help but notice (and buy) some of the new skincare and makeup offerings there. I indulged and after trying out these products for a few days, I definitely have some thoughts and first impressions to share.
CeraVe Hydrating Micellar Water - Well, I was hoping to be blown away by this micellar water, since I've had good luck with other CeraVe products (for example, see my review of CeraVe's Skin Renewing Night Cream). I wasn't. The first time I used this micellar water to remove eye makeup, it irritated my eye (I only used it on one eye because it immediately caused a reaction) and I ended up with a very painful, red, and itchy eye. Not a good first impression. I will still use this product to take off foundation, but it's going nowhere near my eyes again.
St. Ives Cleansing Stick (Cactus Water and Hibiscus) - The new cleansing sticks from St. Ives intrigued me because I thought they might be a nice for airline travel, since they aren't a liquid. So I tried one, and I've been very happy with it so far! I chose the Cactus Water and Hibiscus formula because it is marketed as being moisturizing, and I like a cleanser that doesn't leave skin tight and dry. They also have a clarifying version (Apricot an Manuka Honey) and a detoxifying version (Matcha Green Tea and Ginger) as well. So far, so good with this product, and my face feels pretty soft after using it, although not quite as nourished as my regular CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. But for a stick cleanser, I think this is a good, hydrating choice and I will definitely consider traveling with it in the future.
Aveeno Positively Radiant Exfoliating Body Wash - This is a nice and gentle body exfoliator for the shower. Nothing over-the-top fantastic, just a good solid product. My skin feels clean and polished after use, and well-prepped for moisturizer.
Tom's of Maine Natural Body Wash (Lavender Tea Tree) - Now, this one is a standout. This was apparently released last year, but is new to my drugstore, and I'm so glad I found it. The lavender scent is very strong (which I like), but be warned that if you aren't the biggest fan of lavender, you might want to try one of the other scents. It also comes in Creamy Coconut and Orange Blossom, both of which smelled great in the store.
Physicians Formula The Healthy Foundation - This foundation has been getting quite a bit of buzz on YouTube lately. I've used it a few times, and so far I'm liking it. I use shade LC1 (Light Cool), which I believe is the lightest shade. It is a little bit thicker in formulation than I normally prefer, but it applies smoothly and so far isn't caking or separating on my skin as it wears. One thing I don't like about it is the smell - it smells a bit like paint, but the smell dissipates after you apply it. I'm also not crazy about the oversized doefoot applicator, but that's a personal preference and of course doesn't impact how the foundation performs.
L'Oreal Infallible Glow-Lock Illuminating Primer - I've been looking for good drugstore illuminating primers lately, so I was happy to see this pop up at the drugstore. I'm finding that it works very well as a primer, but I'm not noticing any apparent luminosity to my skin as a result of using it. It's a good, solid primer, but I'm skeptical about its "illuminating" claim.
That's it for this batch of new-at-the-drugstore items! I hope you enjoyed this post and found it useful. What drugstore makeup and skincare have you found lately that you just can't put down?
